There are a few cities on the Volga which are so closely connected with literature as Kazan. Leo Tolstoy began his career in Kazan. Maxim Gorky, Sergei Aksakov, Petr Melnikov-Pechersky, Velimir Khlebnikov, Amirhan Eniki, Qasim-Sheikh, Gabdulla Tukay, Mazhit Gafuri, Musa Jalil and Hadi Taktash lived and worked in this city. Houses, streets, gardens and squares became intimately linked with novels, poems, verses - they are perceived as living pages of culture. Grant recipients, residents of the art-residence "The Old-Tatar Sloboda" will have a happy opportunity to enrich this list and to make a contribution to the “Kazan text”.
